National or International: Do Children ought to know the daily news?

National or International: Do Children ought to know the daily news?

We have all sorts of technology today. The young generation is indeed flooded (or maybe over flooded) with such technology

Kids of this age do use this a lot, but how far is it actually 'good'?
If you understand what that means, you are a great observer!

Now, back to my point- How many of our children are actually aware of the world around them?

You see, apart from good food, parties, Iphones, and videos and mobile games, there is grey area in this world- that does not look very pleasant.

A world of hardship, a struggle for existence, success, career, diseases and so much more.

Kids ought to know....

If you do not make them aware, they will be lost and less equipped for the competitive future that lies ahead of them.

Mama, what this?

Not my boy, but I had an Indian family staying near our house about 5 years back. Their child was only 12 years, but he made it a point to read all the news that came by his way.

One day he was reading all about Boosted Indian Export Growth and was asking his mom all about it.

She further went on to sit back and explain the world of finance, jobs, exports, GDP and so on.

I asked her, 'Why does she take so much pain to explain all this?

I mean, I too was a sister at that time, but never noticed this type of dedication in our families.

Knowledge means preparing

Yup, she told me- education means lending information of any sort and in any way to children.

They need to know that the world is not fancy, or a bed of roses..

There are many people who work behind the scenes and children ought o know all that.

If not, when they reach an independent stage of life- it would be difficult to comprehend and adjust to the life that sands in front of them.

So, as a parent we need to prepare them for their future.

  1. Great post. I am reading a book about the iGen now and how they do not care about world news which is pretty scary. I think in middle school kids should start following world news and there are some great sites designed for kids like newsela.

How I tried to decode the Tantrum Challenge?

How I tried to decode the Tantrum Challenge? A shout here, a scream and the next thing I see are a string of soft toys being hurled at me. I escape a few and then the last one hits right on my back! Whoa, that did hurt my neck a bit! Wondering what this is all about? An old experience I would like to relate to. Before that, I would like to give you a picture of my family. We have a huge family. I mean my dad had 7 brothers. These uncles got married and each one has their own sweet family. My dad was the eldest and I also happened among the eldest of the cousins. I have one elder brother and one elder sister and by the time I was 12 years old, they went off to study in graduation college. At that time, I guess it was the baby season and I had a lot of cousins aged between 2-5 years old. All our moms had a tradition- to relax once in a month. Freak out, Moms! Once in a month, the wives of all the 8 men planned an outing. It could be to the park or a cl...

Family... Is there anything more comforting that this little word?

Family... Is there anything more comforting that this little word? Do think about that word: family? It may be just a word for many of us, but coming to this further- it means a lot for all of us. Basically, thinking of it- it is family that molds the world we live in today. I lived in a large family- where cousins, uncles and aunts all lived under one roof.  True, there was utter confusion, no chaos, and you can be sure to have a day full of noises, fights and yells! Literally, I have never witnessed a day of silence; but when I now sit and think about it- there was so much fun, love and happiness in it. We were never: - Fully fed with food that we craved for - Toys seemed to be in the hands of the mighty and the bold ones - Clothes were never abundant like these days as money was scarce. So, all that we were entitled to a once a year shopping spree and that was definitely for Christmas. Oh man, I could tell you – whether old or young- we ...
